Why I Encourage You to Have Both Digital and Printed Photographs - Natalie Jayne Photography Studio Shropshire

Updated: 7 days ago

As a photographer, one of the most meaningful parts of my job is preserving memories for families — not just for today, but for generations to come. That’s why I believe in offering both high-quality digital files and the option to invest in printed artwork. It’s more than just a choice between screens and frames — it’s about legacy, security, and connection.

Growing up in the late 80s and early 90s, digital photography didn’t arrive until I was well into my teens. Even then, those first digital snapshots? I couldn’t tell you where they are now. They were probably left behind on an old mobile phone, lost before "the cloud" was even a thing.

Add to that a garage flood that destroyed most of our printed family photos, and what’s left is a lifetime of memories that no longer exist in visual form. No albums to flick through, no framed prints to smile at in passing — just gaps where tangible moments used to live.

That loss shaped how I think about photography. For my family, and for yours, I want to ensure you never face that same regret.

The Value of Digital

Digital files offer something incredibly important — flexibility, freedom, and a sense of security. Some clients aren’t quite ready to print their images just yet — whether they’re in the middle of a house move or still finalising their décor. Others love sharing their gallery with family or saving their baby’s portraits as their phone background.

For all of those reasons, digital images matter. They’re convenient, they’re shareable, and they’re a modern essential. That’s why I include a high-resolution digital package with every booking.

Why Print Matters Too

But here’s the thing: digital files are only one part of the story.

Printed photos bring your memories to life in a way no screen can. A framed print on the wall is more than decoration — it’s a daily reminder of love, connection, and belonging. For children especially, seeing themselves proudly displayed in their home fosters self-worth and a deep sense of place. It says: You are loved. You are important. You belong here.

Albums become sensory keepsakes — something you can hold, pass around, and return to time and time again. And let’s not forget: a printed image is also a physical backup of your digital files — a safeguard for your memories.

What I Offer

When you book a session with me, your journey starts with a digital package. At your photo viewing, you’ll have the opportunity to upgrade and choose from a curated selection of premium wall art and prints — or use your digital files to print in your own time.

Either way, my goal is to help you preserve your family’s story in a way that feels meaningful, lasting, and truly yours.

So whether you’re Team Digital, Team Print, or both — know that you don’t have to choose one over the other. You can have flexibility and permanence. Convenience and connection.

Because these moments matter — now and for generations to come.
